Royal Botanic Gardens

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

You know how are the Aussies they still believe that they are actually part of the British Crown (legally they are, but oh well… at least we have a day off due to the Queen’s birthday), so they have a Royal Botanic Gardens. If you know you have a beautiful garden, that’s rubbish!, yeah even the African orchids that you take care of everyday, they are nothing compared with this extremely peaceful and beautiful park.

The park is actually so big that we only visited a part. I have already visited it with Catherine, Heidi and James, but this time I spent more time in there and it was awesome! Also I took pictures from Mrs. Macquarie point, and that’s a really great angle to capture Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

This is me from Mrs. Macquarie Point. As usual, the rest of the pictures are in the photoalbum named Royal Botanic Gardens.

Enrolment day

Posted under Personal

Yesterday was my enrolment day at Macquarie Uni. Fortunately, I am a postgraduate student and I don’t need to go to the Uni, I can enrol via web, isn’t is cool? So, I waited until midnight to enrol, but the system didn’t display my units. I thought that someone needed to run a script or enable a database or something, so I sent an email asking for help but I went to sleep to enrol in the morning, expecting that they will fix it by that time.

I woke up around 9am, the strange birds were singing (or should I say barking?, I’ll explain that later) and I turned on my laptop to enrol. The system refused to display any unit to enrol, so I had to go to Uni, after breakfast of course. I walked to eStudent office looking for help but the server in that room was down, so this was really annoying because in any other computer in campus I could access eStudent, except into the room of eStudent. People at there was kind but answered that they couldn’t do anything. Finally, around 2pm I got a call from eStudent telling me that my data was updated and I could enrol, quickly I went to the library to enrol and presto!, I enroled. And these are my subjects:

  • Monday: The Software Development Process.
  • Tuesday: Security Management.
  • Wednesday: Cool, no classes!
  • Thursday: System and Network Security.
  • Friday: Object-oriented Technology.

All the classes are from 6pm to 10pm, I didn’t like much that time, but the reason is that many people taking those subjects are working full time, well at least I can wake up late.

After that, I went to the library to ask for my e-mail, but the people in the IT help desk told me that maybe next week would be activated (next week!!!, I felt like in Mexico! oh Mexican bureaucracy, I don’t miss you anymore). Anyway I am enroled and my classes start next week :).

Chinese Gardens of Friendship

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

What’s better that visiting the Chinese Gardens of Friendship in the heart of Chinatown? Visiting the gardens with a Chinese girl of course! I went with Daisy to visit those great gardens last Wednesday, and the first thing that I noticed is that “friendship” sometimes has a price, AU$ 3.00 (with cocession because we’re students). Those gardens are really impressive, they are really peaceful and certainly I would like to have a house like that (Daisy told me that actually rich people in China had houses like that in the past). Unfortunately the sky was cloudy and it started to rain later but anyway we took good pictures and I spent such a great time, as you can see in this picture:

and this is my picture with Daisy

All the pictures in the new album called Chinese Gardens of Friendship.

Hyde Park and The Rocks

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

Last Sunday was a walking tour around Sydney: Hyde Park, the ANZAC memorial, St. Mary’s Cathedral, the New South Wales state library, the Rocks and walking on Harbour Bridge. I think I can be a tourist guide since I can move pretty well around the city with little help of maps, so if you visit Sydney you can hire me as guide :).

The next pictures are me on Harbour Bridge and some strange rabbits in Martin Place, I suppose that it was being filmed a TV ad or something.

All the pictures are in the albums Opera House (although the pictures were taken from Harbour Bridge), Hyde Park and the City.

Cuauhtemoc

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

The last 8 July I went to the city with my Aussie friends and we found the Cuauhtemoc, (of course not the soccer player!), the training ship from the Mexican navy that travels around the world. Nice to see Mexicans around here.

All the pictures in the album of Circular Quay (thanks Catherine for sending the pictures).

The Matrix has you

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

I have seen The Matrix many times, and my friends here in Australia pointed out that you can see some locations of Sydney, but I didn’t realise that you can actually see many locations. It is supposed that The City in Matrix is just a megacity, none in particular. Although you can see that the city is actually Sydney:

When Neo is trying to escape from the Agents at the beginning of the movie, is this the Anzac Bridge?

Matrix - Anzac Bridge

Anzac Bridge

Oh yeah the scene with woman in red, which “resembles” Martin Place,

Matrix - Woman in red dress

and what about this scene, I could swear is the AON building!

Matrix - Agent

but wait, there is more, what about the AWA tower?

Matrix - Escape with Morpheus

and I suppose the agents are paid in Citibank

Matrix - Citibank

and this is the last, can I see in the background the Harbour Bridge?

Matrix - final scene

Superman Returns

Posted under Personal

I just saw Superman Returns with my friends. It is a good movie, Bryan Singer did a good job with the movie, although it is not outstanding. And Catherine is right, it is very creepy how similiar looks Brandon Routh to Christopher Reeve. Also it is interesting to see some places of Sydney in the movie, like Martin Place.

Well also it is good to see to my buddy Brandon doing a good movie, what? yeah my buddy, my bro, ha, ha, I met him in Italy, remember?

Lost in Sydney

Posted under Chronicles of Australia, Personal

Nope, I’m not lost in Sydney, I lost my Palm last Sunday 9!!! Oh yeah, if you know me from sometime you should know that my Zire 72 was my favourite device and very very useful while traveling. Unfortunately I lost it either in a bus from Queen Victoria Building to my house in Marsfield or (most likely) in the bus stop. I have been wondering if someone stole it from my pocket but it seems unlikely since the bus was almost empty, so most likely it slipped off the pocket in my jacket… well I need a new one (and I expect the cooperation from my friends, from now 10 dollars for reading this blog).
