The art of deception

Posted under IT Channel

After finishing my exams I immediately (literally) went to library to take one book which I have wanted to read for some months The Art of Deception by Kevin Mitnick and another guy who’s obviously less famous since I can’t remember his name. Well I have just read like 60 pages but the book is really great in exposing the art of social engineering. After some pages I’m becoming a bit paranoid about everybody (nope, I wasn’t paranoid before, that is my normal personality). But don’t worry, I won’t close the post comments (although probably I will trace you down until get your IP, passport number, driving licence, the name of your pet, and size of underwear).

The style of writing of Mitnick if proper of a hacker, so don’t expect bells and whistles in the “fictional” (I still doubt it) stories. I also like that Mitnick teaches you lingo of cons, like a “mark” (the victim) or “burn the source” (don’t let the mark know that you are performing a con or he/she won’t be usable next time). Good book if you’re in the computer security area or simply want to be a con man/woman :D .

Holidays!!

Posted under Personal

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is in having lots to do and not doing it.” –Mary Wilson Little

After some hard exams, finally holidays!!! I’ll be back in classes next 27th of February. Great because I was getting tired of studying too much :D . Although now I have little to do during the day, well I’m going to continue workin in Websalad but I haven’t been assigned new projects yet, anyway suddenly it seems like too much time now because I was getting used to do many things at the same time. Well I’m doing a bit of house cleaning and putting my desk and my files in the computer in order. I think I should go the beaches, I always thought that if I lived in a place very close to the sea I’d spend the whole day in there… guess what?, isn’t true!.

Saint Mary’s Cathedral

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

What it’s better than a guided tour? A free guided tour! Last Sunday I took the free tour of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, the main catholic church in Australia. The cathedral is a gothic style, first built for convicts (because they don’t want them to mix with the rest of the people) and ironically in time it became the seat of the Archdiocese of Sydney. There is a free tour (I love that word!) but they ask you for two dollars for using your camera, of course no one is checking if you paid, but you don’t want to cheat in the church, right? The crypt is really interesting but the most impressive things are the windows.

The rest of the pictures at the end of the city album.

Impressive windows, just like an European cathedral

A replica of La Pieta, hey I've seen the original in Vatican City!!

The Rocks Market

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

The Markets by Moonlight in The Rocks is taking place every Friday of this month. There are music, lots of interesting things to buy and foreign food (I tried Turkish). So I went there with Daisy and took some pictures of the Rocks, the Opera House at night (I think I haven’t been in the Opera House at night since Heidi, Catherine and Tony took me there in my second day in Sydney) and also some nightly pictures of the Harbour Bridge (yeah I love that bridge!).

By the way, I started a new album named The Rocks.

Walking the Harbour Bridge

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

Last Sunday, I walked the Harbour Bridge, not the expensive climb, but only walking by foot.

As usual I took massive pictures, you know with 512 MB of memory you can take all the pictures you want and since my webserver was updated with 50GB of space I have no problems :D

Walking the bridge is really great, there is a lot of tourists (and international students, hehe) taking pictures, nice girls exercising and dramatic views of the Opera House and the city itself. After walking in a hot day I was hungry, fortunately there was a small market in Kirribilli (the north shore of the bridge) and I tried some Thai food (it was that or hot dogs, so I took my chances trying something different, which actually was very good). Then I walked around, from Luna Park to Bradfield Park. And after that I walked back to city, and just seated in Dawes Point studying my notes of Security Management :)

There are more pictures in the albums Harbour Bridge, City and Opera House.

Cafe Pacifico

Posted under Chronicles of Australia

Last Wednesday 1 of November I went with Kim to another Mexican restaurant, Cafe Pacifico, in East Sydney.

Oddly enough Kim is actually more fan of Mexican food than I. Anyway, now we’re always searching for Mexican restaurants and a friend recommended that place. Now I’m starting to feel like Homer when he was a food reviewer, so Mexican restaurants in Sydney metro, beware!

Well, the place was easy to find although is not in a main avenue (that’s good), by the inside quickly I noticed the Mexican atmosphere. Not silly hats or those things, there was really Mexican things and frames around there, actually it was closer to a Mexican low-level cantina than a classy restaurant (just decoration, don’t run away!). Well except for the candles, which were completely out of place.

And the food was excellent, so these people have Mexican cookers or they have been in Mexico. The prices were reasonable (we ended up paying around 50 dollars together) except for the tequilas or other spirits, which anyway we didn’t want to, but it was fun to find a Corona in 20 dollars. We took some pictures there in a hammock (fun but you’ll never found that in a real Mexican restaurant) and a small altar because 2 of November is the Day of the Dead.

So my final rating for the place is 8.5 (out of 10.0), thumbs up! :)
