PersonalI tried to update wordpress unfortunately the process is not as easy as it should be, so I had to reverse the blog to the previous version, but there were some issues (OK I screwed up my own blog) and after some hours of tweaking I got my blog back… mostly, so if some parts are not working properly, well you know why.

Chronicles of AustraliaYesterday was the national day of Australia and I spent most of the time around the Opera House. There were many ferries and boats passing by, helicopters from the navy, parachutes, an impressive jetfighter (I didn’t know they were so noisy!!) and lot of people around there taking pictures and even having a BBQ in the Opera House!
Then I walked around Macquarie Street where around 1000 vintage cars where in exhibition, and I reached Hyde Park where lot of food and music was offered. Then I took a short walk to Darling Harbour, there everything was ready for the fireworks in the night.
I took some pictures of the Google plane which was taking high resolution pictures for updating Google maps, I hope to be there, very likely holding a camera.

Chronicles of AustraliaThe Australian Open is taking place in Melbourne and I found the other day an incredible bright screen (consdering that it was like 3pm) in front of the Opera House, in which you can see the tennis matches.

PersonalLast Saturday I went to Marsfield Park to the comet again, it was a completely clear evening so I have it all for myself. That park was perfect because it has not lights, anyway you can see the comet even with street lights.
My camera only has a 2-second exposure so I took some blurry pictures, the comet is actually much clearer but at least you get an idea. I did a colour enhancement in the last two pictures for your delight
Comet McNaught 1
Comet McNaught 2
Coment McNaught 1 (colour enhanced)
Coment McNaught 2 (colour enhanced)

Chronicles of Australia,
PersonalCatherine’s birthday is today! Happy birthday! To celebrate such a great date we went yesterday to the Moonlight Cinema in Centennial Park to watch A Scanner Darkly, good movie so faithful to the book.
But the best part, was that Catherine show us the comet McNaught. It was awesome!! I have never seen such a thing. A real brightly comet, with a visible trail. You can see it just with the naked eye at dusk. That was completely incredible and I’m so happy of being in the Southern hemisphere to see it so clearly. I swear, is the most impressive thing I’ve seen so far in my life. So, the sky gave Catherine a nice present, I want a comet in my birthday too!

IT Channel,
LinuxThe party is over!
The conferences are finished :(, but it was such a great experience. The last day Kathy Sierra was opened the day, there were a few conferences in security in Linux and the closing ceremony was funny enough. We got some blue/green glowing sticks, the purpose was to use them to move a giant Space Invaders game (green right, red left), so the idea was to use an “collective intelligence” to move the game on screen. Unfortunately it didn’t work but anyway the idea was rather cool.
Next linux.conf.au is in Melbourne, and I’m seriously thinking in cyber-begging, like these guys which made it just with donations.

IT Channel,
LinuxToday I attended a scary PHP5 tutorial with Rasmus Lerdorf. Adobe Reader and Flash are so insecure, so much that it was scary!! Today was the open day, so there were good projects in the pavillion like the OLPC and a open-source Segway.
