Sydney is turning off its lights today from 7:30pm to 8:30pm in a commitment to reduce global warming. I’ll be at Heidi’s place by that time, maybe in the darkness If you can, don’t forget to turn your lights off, and take the opportunity to watch the stars!

On 19 March, 1932 the Sydney Harbour Bridge was completed, and 75 years later this city had another pretext to have a big party The bridge was closed to allow people to walk on it and there were some events, mainly in The Rocks. At the end of the day, the tribal warrior aboriginal ceremony took place on and under the bridge.

That bridge is really a symbol for this city, and I use it every time I need to go to the CBD, well, unless I catch the train which goes via Strathfield, OK, nevermind. It was a good time and there were nice lights in the night.

Although St. Patrick’s Day is actually tomorrow, it was celebrated last Sunday in Hyde Park. Having so many Irish descendant people here in Australia it was a big party in the city. There was a funny parade and lot of drinks and music in Hyde Park. And as you know I love taking pictures so I opened another album St. Patrick’s Day 2007.

Something interesting, I found a Tux in a mobile coolroom. Either Linux devices are everywhere or someone is plagiarising the little penguin.

If you remember my post of Australia Day, I told you that a Google plane was taking hi-res pictures of Sydney and actually I took some pictures of the plane (James took a better picture). Well, the pictures made it in Google maps a couple of weeks ago, some links for you:

Wait a minute, it was Australia Day, the Opera House should be crowded, Hyde Park was full of people having a picnic and buying food, what the hell happened in here? The pictures don’t seem like Australia Day to me. Well at least we have very hi-res pictures of the city.

Other birthday gifts that I got: chopsticks courtesy of Daisy (uhmm I don’t think I will be able to use them properly) and Alex gave me a funny card along with 20 bucks to spend in Dymocks (which I haven’t spent yet, I’m still making my mind).

Last Saturday I went with some friends to the Mardi Gras in Sydney, which different from other cities is a Gay / Lesbian parade in the city. Oddly enough, we could even see the city council and the NSW police in the parade.

Last Monday I started my new semester!! Finally after like 3 months of holidays, my longest holidays ever!

So my new classes are:

• ITEC 851. System and Network Technologies (formerly Vulnerabilities in Commercial Operating Systems). This is going to be a tough one, but it seems very interesting. This class is on Mondays 6-10pm.
• ITEC 803. Computer Networks. It sounds like an easy one, but everything at a masters level is difficult at the end (like OOT). The professor works for Nortel Networks so I think he knows a big deal about that. This class is on Tuesdays 6-10pm.
• ITEC 855. Security Technologies. I really wanted to take this, we are going to learn more about security technologies and implement it using Java. Sounds like a lot of fun (bungee jumping or boxing is fun for some people, so don’t be surprised!). This class is on Wednesdays 6-10pm.
