Melbourne Grand Prix

Posted under Chronicles of Australia, Trips

I went to the Melbourne Grand Prix over the weekend and it was awesome! The cars are extremely fast and loud, but the event was great and there are good things to see in Albert Park. The weather in Melbourne was extremely hot and humid, like a bad day in Villahemosa. I’ll put pictures and videos (because it was nearly impossible to catch the cars on still camera) very soon.

Live from San Francisco

Posted under Trips

I’m in the boarding gate waiting for my flight to Sydney and I start searching for free wireless. I don’t know why, this city which offers free wifi in m anyparts does not have one in the airport. Fortunately I start looking using my Palm until I found the lounge of China Airlines, I they have free internet for their members. I’m not a member but I just sit in front of them and I could call home using Skype :)

San Francisco

Posted under Trips

If you haven’t noticed it yet, I uploaded some pictures of San Francisco in flickr. I spent three days in the city so I had to plan in advance where to go every day. Fortunately it worked, I used the City Pass which a great deal, for 54 American dollars you get unlimited access to the municipal public transport and seven attractions including the Museum of Modern Art. That museum is a kick ass museum, even if you’re not in the modern art stuff the museum is awesome! You can even see original Picasso’s and Andy Warhol’s.

So in three days I visited the Museum of Modern Art, Yerba Buena Gardens, Union Square, Bloomingdales (and I didn’t buy anything, hehe), the Golden Gate (impressive bridge), Chinatown, Little Italy, Coit Tower, Lombard Street (on top of Russian Hill, that’s exercise), Embarcadero, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli (uhmmm.. chocolate), Presidio, Marina, the Museum of Asian Art, the Aquarium of the Bay (Sydney’s aquarium is better), Exploratorium, the Palace of Fine Arts, Civic Centre and rode on the cable cars. Oh yeah I took a small cruise around Alcatraz and the Golden Gate. I missed Mission, Castro and the Legion of Honour, but maybe next time.
The architecture of the city is great, a mixture of modern and Victorian buildings. Maybe San Fran is not as safe as Sydney but certainly is not Chicago. Unfortunately too many homeless people, really too many, everywhere, almost like sea gulls in Sydney. And I really liked this picture of the Golden Gate in the afternoon:

Live from Houston!

Posted under Chronicles of Australia, Trips

Interesting enough some airports are offering free internet, not very common but if you’re curious enough you can find them. At the Sydney airport look for a the Qantas lounge and if you have a frequent flyer number you can connect. In San Francisco I didn’t get any (although you can get some free internet around the city), I’m in Houston right now waiting for my flight to Villahermosa and Continental is offering free wireless only in its boarding gates.

Houston wireless seems to be the best, since I could even call my family on Skype!!

Street view

Posted under Chronicles of Australia, IT Channel, Trips

Just a few minutes before I leave to the airport and I was checking in Google maps my accommodation in San Francisco, and I found incredibly handy the street views. I could virtually walk from Union Square to Post Street and now I have an idea how to get there from the train station, so probably I’ll catch only the train since is a short stroll.

OK this blogger has a trip to complete, see you on the other side of the ocean.
